There were many ways in which I have thought of “popping the big question”. I figured this was the best way to go about it and was what I thought Leslie would really appreciate, as well. The only problem is not too long ago we saw a couple do the same thing. Therefore, I couldn’t just replicate the entire plan without her realizing what is actually happening. So with that in mind, I had a problem. How do I get Leslie on the chair without her knowing what’s happening? Well thanks to our friends Chi, Peter and Crystal, a plan started to brew in the back of my mind…
Stage One: Get Crystal to contact Leslie to have an afternoon at Disneyland. This pulls the attention from me planning something since Crystal was the one who initiated the plans to begin with. I asked Crystal if I could use her as bait in order to get Leslie to go to Disneyland.
Stage Two: Get our good friend and resident Disneyland Badass Caricature Artist Extraordinaire to draw us as a couple. This part was most critical and my biggest worry. If Leslie doesn’t want to get her image drawn by Chi, then game over! Contingency plan of proposing at the Sleeping Beauty Castle might be the alternate; but not what I was hoping for. Once we got to Chi’s workstation, she asked to draw us; however, Leslie said “no” at first, but then I whispered to her, “she wanted to draw us as a birthday present for you”. Luckily I planned for this since her birthday wasn’t until the weekend. Let the drawing being!
Stage Three: Have Peter and Crystal take photos of the event. This wasn’t a normal thing they do; so, in order to hide their “paparazzi-ness” I used the excuse of using Chi as an up and coming artist for our website once we got our business site fully functional. The images can be used to promote her skills.
Stage Four: Once the drawing was complete, drop down on a knee and “pop the big question”.
Fortunately everything went according to my plan. We even had a small crowd appear at the very end and gave us a round of applause. Luckily, nobody spoiled the surprise, either, since it is known that some rotten passers-by sometimes yells out what’s going on.
In closing, I would like to thank my good friends Chi, Peter and Crystal. Without you guys none of this would have been possible and we are both happy to share this special moment in our lives with you. I will never forget this and am eternally grateful.
